#LFW Outfits and Photobooths

London Fashion Week, day number two; we all met up near Brick Lane for breakfast and coffee. Day two, was an opportunity for us to up fashion ensembles!tumblr_o4gboqzics1qcam0lo3_1280From hats to layering our coats on our shoulders, we were the epitome of coordinating Girl Gang partners!

With muted tones and mostly monochrome, our outfit-of-the-day pictures fit perfectly in front of these giant black and white chevron arrow panelling.tumblr_o4gboqzics1qcam0lo2_1280Kasimiira is wearing:

Sophia is wearing:

Culott jumpsuit – F&F

tumblr_o4gboqzics1qcam0lo5_1280After sharing enough romantic longing looks into each others eye, we decided we looked so fetching that we just had to swing round the corner to snap some shoots in the Rough Trade East photo booth!tumblr_o4gcm6en011qcam0lo2_1280Not only does this place boast a high quality (and affordable) photo booth for the perfect London souvenir you can make yourself, it also houses an extensive music collection worth picking through!

You never know, you might come out with more than one piece of memorabilia from your visit!tumblr_o4gcm6en011qcam0lo1_1280tumblr_o4g9kppp1u1qcam0lo5_1280We had arrived on a mission. We heaped up our extra bags and everything bulky on the floor next to the wallpaper of previous customers, and piled into the small square seating space.tumblr_o4gcm6en011qcam0lo3_1280The result consisted of a range of faces. Some where we were very obviously unprepared for the quick fire flash…

And others where we threw caution to the wind in terms of trying to look in any way attractive…tumblr_o4g9kppp1u1qcam0lo6_1280Next was practically a documentation of every (wannabe) chic pose we could vogue in our short time in front of the camera!tumblr_o4g9kppp1u1qcam0lo8_1280Finally, a group photo of the Fashion Week team! I will honestly tell you it was a struggle to squeeze us all in. And there was definitely only one of us sitting on the tiny stool at any one time.tumblr_o4g9kppp1u1qcam0lo7_1280 But if you’re going to take an #ootd at London Fashion Week – make it black and white, in a photobooth, on a rainy day in Brick Lane!

Penthouse Life in London

Less than a fortnight ago I headed to London for a weekend away before saying goodbye to Britain for the Christmas Season.tumblr_nzs1h57mrp1qcam0lo1_1280And because this was my last time in the U.K. before the New Year, I thought I’d spend the weekend in style!

Thanks to Airbnb, and a snap decision, we ended up booking ourselves into a beautiful 29th floor Penthouse apartment for the weekend!tumblr_nzs1h57mrp1qcam0lo6_1280tumblr_nzs1h57mrp1qcam0lo5_1280The views really speak for themselves…tumblr_nzs20nuqb11qcam0lo1_1280tumblr_nzs20nuqb11qcam0lo2_1280Built on the edge of the River Thames, and just across from Canary Wharf, we were (almost) on top of the world! OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWe arrived on the Friday evening, and were given a hotel/show room style tour of the place. And the balcony was definitely our favourite, most awe inspiring spot!tumblr_nztjayjvbx1qcam0lo1_1280Of course, the balcony was just as beautiful in the day time.tumblr_nzs20nuqb11qcam0lo5_1280And from inside, the swanky pad was furnished with plush modern furniture creating a luxurious vibe that could even make James Bond envious!tumblr_nzs20nuqb11qcam0lo9_1280tumblr_nzs20nuqb11qcam0lo8_1280The furniture was an eclectic mix of modern and French antique, because the space is often rented out for photography sessions! Each of the pieces can be rented for different shoots.tumblr_nzs20nuqb11qcam0lo7_1280And who wouldn’t want to shoot here? tumblr_nzs20nuqb11qcam0lo6_1280The whole apartment was adorned with large coffee table books on photography and art; to be browsed through at one’s leisure!tumblr_nztjayjvbx1qcam0lo3_1280tumblr_nztjayjvbx1qcam0lo2_1280The space was clean, and bright, and impeccably minimal. We had free range to lounge about the Penthouse and use the little kitchen for basic needs – which mostly included coffee.tumblr_nztjayjvbx1qcam0lo4_1280And you can imagine that our bedroom was as luxurious as the rest of the Penthouse! Including our own private door that opened onto the balcony too!

Check out the Airbnb Penthouse page if you want to rent yourself, here!tumblr_nzs20nuqb11qcam0lo10_1280Of course, we didn’t spend all of our time inside the apartment – we simply had too much to do elsewhere in the city! But relaxing in the evenings, pretending we might live somewhere as beautiful one day, wasn’t bad either!

The Best Pancakes in York

tumblr_nzgiiqemys1qcam0lo7_1280I was informed recently that the 17th of December is national Maple Syrup Day in America and Canada. So, I thought I’d show you a cosy joint – in the very British town of York – that really takes the (pan)cake!tumblr_nzgiiqemys1qcam0lo8_540tumblr_nzgiiqemys1qcam0lo1_540Brew & Brownie can be found nestled on York’s Museum Street, and is a delicious spot to stop by for any number of handmade tasty treats, teas and coffees.tumblr_nzgiiqemys1qcam0lo4_540Jars lights, and mismatched chairs come together to create the cosy rustic interior.tumblr_nzgiiqemys1qcam0lo6_540Stepping inside is welcomingly warm – exactly the kind of break those cold fingers and noses will need from the nippy Winter weather, and Christmas shopping.tumblr_nzgiiqemys1qcam0lo5_540Now, I’m certainly don’t want to be left behind celebrating any national Maple Syrup Day, and pancakes are a good idea any time of year.

So we ordered the classic ‘American Pancake Stack’…tumblr_nzgiiqemys1qcam0lo2_540A hot, fluffy stack of American pancakes with maple syrup, crispy bacon and a scattering of blueberries. Trust me – even the photographs don’t do them justice!

Brew & Brownie offer a variety of other delicious pancake options – but you’ll have to grab yourself a taste of the action to find out what they are!tumblr_nzgiiqemys1qcam0lo3_540This is the perfect place for a catchup over coffee. And considering the time of year – it’s even an opportunity to exchange Christmas presents (over a shared stack of pancakes, of course)!tumblr_nzgiiqemys1qcam0lo9_1280So happy Maple Syrup Day to American and Canadian friends! But that certainly shouldn’t stop anyone else from having a festive helping of pancake cheer too!

Belt – Thrifted

Jeans – H&M

Boots – H&M

Cropped turtleneck – Zara

Cropped sweaters and high waisted jeans are a match made in heaven, and an eye catching belt buckle will peep through perfectly between the two garments!

These are a key Autumnal staple for cosy chic that still lets you highlight your all important waist. To keep with the darkly vampy colour palette – I decided to apply a slick coat of rich berry lipstick!

Lipstick – Sleek

A completely comfortable outfit for a day wandering through beautiful English villages and the famed halls of the French Chateau of The Bowes Museum.

Behind the scene/blooper/prep shots:

Yves Saint Laurent Extended Exhibition

‘Yves Saint Laurent: Style is Eternal’. The first ever exhibition – in the UK – of the French designer Yves Saint Laurent’s life, and work, came to a close less than a week ago.

I decided it was an opportunity too good to miss, so before the exhibition closed its doors for good, I took myself over to the French Château-style museum in the North of England to have a look! This is just a small look through the magnificent display put on by The Bowes Museum in collaboration with Fondation Pierre Bergé – so follow me through…Entrance to the museum is free for Art Fund card holders – and still relatively inexpensive for general admission – so what are you waiting for?

The exhibition was scheduled to end mid October, but due to high demand was extended until early November. And so, tickets in hand, we entered the large space exhibition space on the first floor. The Bowes Museum pride themselves on their information booklets. They are printed up and freely available to inform in great detail about different elements of the exhibition.Yves Saint Laurent’s famed work was not squeezed into the textiles room, or into the contemporary white cube gallery space that sits opposite. Style is Eternal spread out to fill both spaces and the room in between!

Rather than move the existing french decor interior pieces that live on permanent display in the center room, large black gauze sheeting draped down from the ceiling to floor. These were printed with information about Yves Saint Laurent brand as well as beautifully lettered quotes from the designer himself. The first room had a wall filled with a huge variation of hat designs. These are a clear demonstration of how important the silhouette are to the central designs of everything produced by Yves Saint Laurent.

Notice that these are all produced in a cream neutral fabric. These are a form of ‘toiles’ which are best described as a three-dimensional drawing. They are a crafted design of the original sketch before committing to specific fabrics and adornments. So these hats on display are crafted purely to experiment and test the dynamics of silhouette – hence the beautiful curves and lines!Other displays included original paper doll cut-outs and designs that Yves Saint Laurent himself created! These were designed in mini collections to fit a doll he would make himself from photographs of famous women in magazines. The first room of the exhibition collaborated with the already existing space of The Bowes Museum Textile Room. Inside glass cabinets were situated historical costume dating back decades at a time. The end of each cabinet then housed an iconic design piece from Yves Saint Laurent that tied in a motif of the cabinet in some way. This is another example of how ‘fashion’ is a temporal creation, constantly looping back through time for inspiration and design techniques.Between the aisles were framed examples of Yves Saint Laurent collection mock-ups. Featuring notes, and fabric swatches for different garb ensembles. After reaching the end of the room, we sat and watched a two part documentary which featured an interview with Yves Saint Laurent himself. The rest covered the methods of the work rooms and the design processes behind creating a collection. The center of The Textiles Room was transformed into a display case of original ‘toiles’.Displayed together, the mannequins allow you to really appreciate the craft and detail put into this form of a ‘draft’ tailoring. The work is perfected over and over again with the neutral fabric to achieve the perfect lines and fall on the model. The jackets even feature mock buttons! After we felt we’d had our fill of the first room, we hurried over to the main exhibition space that held mannequin after mannequin adorned in finished ensembles from a huge number of collections! From Sumptuous Luxury…To Art Pop…To Magic and Mystery. The costumes from Yves Saint Laurent were curated and exhibited by style rather than chronological collection. This really allowed each section of the room to make an enormous impact!Follow on from the mannequin displays and you reach a shocking pink coloured corridor that looped around the back of the room. This featured framed photographs and sketches from other artists that used Yves Saint Laurent as this inspiration and focus.

And after seeing an exhibition like this – why wouldn’t you?So in depth, so carefully curated, such a unique experience! I felt very lucky to wander around the first British exhibition of the famed designers work and life!

Fo’ sure, Faux sure!

It’s been awhile since the last post here on Wild November – but here’s a little flashback to the beginning of the autumn months and an #ootd! When you wake up in the morning and your hair ain’t cooperating – you think ‘it would just be easier to commit to the chop’ – here’s an alternate solution to psychotic scissor rage that has gripped us all at one time or another! The faux bob.

A trick which is easier than it looks, and the perfect style to mix-up your usual hair game without committing to a drastic change! The outfit-of-the-day channels ultimate rocker L.A. chic; using grey and black neutral palettes, paired with a classic crisp white tee!Add accessories in black to compliment the jacket, but with minimalist clean lines means the edgier vibe still looks put together!

Jacket – H&M

White t-shirt – Primark

Jeans – H&M

Shoes – Primark

Bag – Asos

When it comes to outfits like this – the style is in the details. A light tuck of the shirt keeps you from losing your figure in oversized pieces on top. The jeans are both ankle grazers, and sport distressed hems which help draw attention to the slimmest part of the leg – the ankle – as well as these amazing flat pumps!Other details include the assorted accessories, as well as the choice to keep zippers undone on the cuff of the tight leather jacket – which helps add to the ‘thrown together’ vibe key for L.A. chic style! Stay tuned in coming weeks for a tutorial on the faux bob featured in this little #ootd post!

Send Me A Sygn

When I stay in Edinburgh for a month with family, I consider it an extended vacation. An extended vacation simply means more time to try and dine in every available eatery in the city!Hidden off the end of the famous Prince’s Street is situated a laidback bar and kitchen style food spot called Sygn (as in “this is a ‘sign’ of a good time and making all my messy food cravings come true”).The interior has the very chilled mid-century meets modern L.A. vibe that’s welcoming and cool at the same time. An eclectic mix of chairs tables fill the space for ample seating, and the ceiling is coated in hand drawn chalk doodles from various staff members. The entire space looks like something you find pinned on a pinterest board. We sat in the far corner next to a window wall with a view of the sunny cobble back streets.Sygn is now a top contender for top joint to hang out in on future evening get togethers. And this is totally because of their various special combo deals – especially Wings Wednesday! (I will report back when I find a companion to accompany me to a Late Night Pizza Smash or Wings Wednesdays – which are now a new necessity in my life!) But as we attended on a day that did not offer amazing deals on wings and beer, we settled ourselves to chose another amazing set of dishes from the kickass menu. This was an important matter and involved some serious dedication of concentration (as all food decisions should, right?).Then our food arrived, and everything was delicious! From hot chilli and vegetable wraps with onion rings on the side…To haggis and cheese curly fries…To fried macaroni cheese balls and fries…And finally, a loaded spicy jalapeno, chilli and cheese fries for myself. None of our plates had a healthy aspect to boast – and we were more than happy to keep it that way! With cold milkshakes and drinks in hand – we chowed down, slowly descending into a quiet silence that comes with a group of people enjoying their food so much, they forget to think about anything else except for the meal in front of them. The milkshake cups (along with a lot of Sygn’s other merchandise) display tongue in cheek slogans and phrase to amuse and entertain. Particularly, their claim that their “milkshakes bring all the girls to the bar!”, which in this ladies lunch out seemed to prove true!A very thrown together outfit for a day of messy dining and lazily walking around in the sunshine. A loose fitting top and sweater, paired with a leather jacket with interesting waterfall lines makes for the perfect combat to that inevitable food baby!

Sweater top – New Look

Distressed skirt – Boohoo

Boots – H&M

Leather jacket – All Saints

Bag – Asos

Sygn is definitely a joint to keep in your repertoire for future visits to the Scottish capital! Happy and (very, very) full – we stepped back onto the sun spangled streets of Edinburgh and wandered along to rejoin the tourist filled streets of the city centre.
